This is important to remember, because often Christians believe an ultimate act of faith is to “Let go and let God.” This is important, but it is also important to realize that the Lord expects us to fight for ourselves. ![]() However, when we read the entire Psalm, we see that David must still fight the battle. The overarching theme in Psalm 110 is that there is a point in battle where David must sit still and let the Lord fight the battle. When we read a verse like this it reminds us that David was first and foremost a man of war! Warriors think in terms of winning and losing, victory and defeat, submission and domination. We must remember that this verse is labeled as “A psalm of David.” David was not only king, but a mighty warrior. In polite company people do not often speak with language that desires the overwhelming domination of another person. The image of an enemy as your footstool is an image not only of victory, but utter dominance. The image of an enemy as your footstool is an image of extreme dominance. Your enemy as your footstool: Think for a moment about the significance of a footstool. Psalm 110 begins by saying, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.” There are some battles you can fight and other battles that require that we sit still, let go, and let God fight on our behalf. One of the realities of life is that sometimes you will meet a person who just does not like you. Throughout the pages of the Bible one can find inspiration for every life situation.
